Glowforge Slate Cheese Board | Glowforge Project | Laser Engraved

On this episode things get a little cheesy as we load a slate cutting board into the Glowforge and learn that some engravings can take a lot of time!

Today we’re going to try this little slate cheeseboard thingy on the Glowforge.

It’s got slate in the middle and it is wood on the outside. You can get these from a bunch of different places.

If you’re on Facebook, I highly suggest joining the tried and tested, engraving and sublimation blanks group. You can get these from them and they also offer settings suggestions and it’s a really good group to belong to and get ideas.

But let’s go ahead and get started and take this down to the Glowforge and put it in the machine.

The thickness of this cutting board was 0.6 inches, which means I had to take the honeycomb tray out and use the risers like I did for most of the other projects you’ve seen so far. And I use the focus height tool also seen in the glass plate video.

I wasn’t feeling too creative tonight. So I went out to Etsy and bought this design, which I thought would work good for the cheeseboard.

All that’s left to do is put the right settings in. So let’s go up to use uncertified material.

Now, again, I’m using the riser, so I use that little tool, the same tool that I used in the glass plate video. And we came up with 0.125 material thickness for this one, and you can see it reset the focus of the screen.

So now we’re going to go to the under manual settings and for the speed we’re going to do 905, and power we’re going to do 40, and for lines per inch we’re going to use 270 and that should be it.

Let’s see how long it’s going to take. Wow. Almost 52 minutes.

That’s going to be my longest engrave yet, but let’s go down to the Glowforge and give it a try.

Well, that was by far the longest and engrave I’ve done so far with the Glowforge, but I think it turned out pretty good for my first slate.

So let me know what you think down in the comments and what other type of items like to see done in the Glowforge.

See you next time.
